The 5th track from the electrifying ‘Bad Man’ EP, titled ‘Just Let It Burn,’ is a masterpiece brought to life by the talented composer and musician J8K3, known as Jannick Damkvist, with heart-stirring lyrics and vocals delivered by the incredible Michael McQuaid, all masterfully mixed by the genius T.H.O.R.

Boston burst onto the scene in spectacular fashion with their electrifying debut studio album, released on August 25, 1976, by Epic Records. Produced by the visionary guitarist Tom Scholz alongside John Boylan, this album marked the arrival of a band that would soon captivate rock enthusiasts everywhere. Scholz, a true multi-instrumentalist and dedicated engineer, had been crafting his musical dreams in his apartment basement, collaborating with the soulful singer Brad Delp. Despite facing countless rejections from major record labels, their relentless passion and creativity shone through when their demo fell into the hands of CBS-owned Epic, leading to a much-deserved signing in 1975.

Defying Epic Records’ insistence on a flashy studio recording in Los Angeles, Scholz and Boylan cleverly outwitted the label, convincing them that they were recording on the West Coast. In reality, the magic was being woven in Scholz’s Massachusetts home, where he meticulously crafted the sound that would redefine classic rock. The album is a vibrant tapestry of the band’s early demos, featuring songs conceived long before their official release. This captivating sound, famously known as the “Boston sound,” is characterized by Scholz’s love for classical music, infectious melodic hooks, and the powerful guitar riffs reminiscent of iconic groups like The Kinks and The Yardbirds, all enhanced by cutting-edge analogue electronic effects developed in his home studio.

Featuring not only the extraordinary talents of Scholz and Delp but also contributions from drummers Jim Masdea and Sib Hashian, guitarist Barry Goudreau, and bassist Fran Sheehan, this album is a testament to their collective artistry. Except for Masdea, who played a pivotal role in the early recording, the rest of the musicians would go on to be integral members of the band.

Upon its release in August 1976, the album skyrocketed into the stratosphere, breaking sales records and claiming the title of the best-selling debut LP in the US at that time. It even earned the prestigious Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Century Award for best-selling debut album. Hit singles like “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” and “Foreplay/Long Time” dominated the charts, while nearly every track continued to resonate, receiving constant airplay on classic rock stations. Boston’s debut is often celebrated as a defining cornerstone of 1970s rock, consistently appearing on lists of essential albums. With over 17 million copies sold in the United States and a staggering 20 million worldwide, it remains one of the best-selling debut albums in history—an enduring testament to the power of rock music!
